In the summer of 2017, Heidi Mullins-Lemieux, a Chicago crochet designer, established HMLSTUDIO. This is basically the vehicle for the study of conventional crochet but giving the craft an upgraded perspective. This new perspective involves using minimalist, architectural and fashion influences while keeping the need for wearability of each piece.
One of Heidi's signature pieces that she developed in recent years is the Benret. After countless visit to multiple stores looking for the 'perfect winter hat’, she failed to find one. Being already quite familiar with crochet, she decided to use her unique crochet skills to develop that 'perfect winter hat’ for herself.
The new development is the combination of her two favorite kinds of hats, the Béret and the Beanie merged into one and she called it the "Benret”. The hat was designed to keep the head and ears warm during those cold days but accompanied with a unique touch of style. Voila, the Benret! Heidi was encouraged with the finished product and frequently, while wearing her Benret, people approached her and asked, "Where can I get one of those?” One of the tasks of HMLSTUDIO is to develop a vehicle for production, distribution, and sale of this unique and charming Benret crocheted hat.
